“Who can forget that March ice storm? So many people, myself included, had massive damage to their properties. After about four days I decided to drive home to see if there was much damage. There was so much debris along the way – downed trees, limbs broken off, half way down trees and snapped off branches all over the place. I couldn’t get into my driveway. A sad picture for many – hydro wires down, phone lines down.

Finding a contractor or somebody to help out was nearly impossible. I was booked on a “wait list” with absolutely no idea of how long I would be on that list. Frustration grew. Time passed. A knock at the door Sunday afternoon started with “I’m Stelios. I see you have a lot of brush to be chipped. I have a chipper, and just wondered if you were interested in having the branches chipped”. Interested??? I was delighted. It was Stelios Lazos, a neighbour down the road. Stelios and I had met briefly several times over the past ten or so years, but I really didn’t know him well. My neighbour came over to meet him, as he had a mess similar to mine. The three of us chatted. He was friendly, polite, direct giving us estimated times for the chipping, obliging (gave us quotes right on the spot) and an all-round pleasant fellow.

My only question was when can you start! As Monday was Victoria Day, he asked if Tuesday would be okay. Okay? My neighbour and I quickly said it would be perfect. Tuesday morning he was here as promised. By mid-day Wednesday, both yards were cleaned up. I even asked to have a pile of mulch in a certain place for a garden project. No problem was his answer. Should I need other yard work done, I would certainly call him without hesitation. If you’ve still got a mess resulting from the storm, I’d have no problem saying call Stelios.
